Discover Ayminor: A Rising Independent Artist with Nostalgic R&B Influences

Music has always been a cornerstone of Ayminor’s life. Growing up, she was immersed in melodies and rhythms thanks to her parents. Her dad, who started singing and playing piano in church, went on to create his own music, accompany bands, and eventually became a music teacher. Her mom also had a deep love for music and made sure their home was filled with the latest hip hop, R&B, and pop CDs from black artists and more. This environment nurtured Ayminor’s passion for music from an early age.

Ayminor was always the one singing at family events, but her first step into performing for a larger audience came when she joined an acapella group in college. This experience was pivotal as it gave her the first taste of performing. Around the end of high school and the beginning of college, she also began producing beats, creating her own songs, and doing covers on YouTube.

Her journey continued as she honed her songwriting skills. However, it wasn’t until the pandemic in 2020 that she had the time to reflect and figure out what formally putting out music would look like. During this period, Ayminor collaborated with her friend, musician Paul Staats, who helped with production, piano, and guitar. Together, they developed her first EP, Tyme Machine, which was released in 2021. Since then, she has been steadily releasing music.

Influences on Ayminor’s Sound

Ayminor feels she grew up in one of the greatest eras of music, especially for black music—the late 90s and 2000s. This time period heavily influences her music. She loves telling a story through her songs and aims to bring real singing back, complete with harmonies and layers.

All of Ayminor’s music has an R&B base, but as an independent artist, she relishes the freedom to explore various styles. She has classic R&B records, pop records, and pop-R&B tracks. She also loves acoustic-based music. While all her work has a common thread of R&B, Ayminor enjoys experimenting with different sounds.

Musical Inspirations

At the core of Ayminor’s sound are numerous artists from the late 90s and 2000s—Destiny’s Child, Brandy, Aaliyah, Monica, Ciara, Ashanti, and TLC, among many others.
