Interview with Roemeinia Behind ‘Lacuna’ Single

Q. What inspired your latest project/song/album?

My latest single is titled “Lacuna” and what inspired this song is actually the word itself (Lacuna).
I had heard the word for the first time, as one does, I looked up the meaning and it captivated me.
So I thought to my self, I’m gonna write a song around this, and I did!

Q. Can you describe the creative process behind this release?

Yeah, my producer is based in the US, we literally haven’t met in person, So the creative process is a bit tricky yet simple.
But to put it shortly; I sent him an idea for the instrumental, a few days later he sent what he had made, I loved it, I recorded my
vocals and sent it back to him.

Q. What message or theme do you hope listeners will take away from your music?

Lacuna means “a gap or void,” which symbolizes the spaces between our narrow perspectives, waiting to be filled with awareness
and understanding.
The take away is ‘one should be able to challenge assumptions, think in, out and beyond the box’.
I hope the song inspires self-reflection mindfulness, and personal growth for everyone who listens to it.

Q. How does this release differ from your previous work?

This new one is a little more upbeat, afro alté vibe, like I mentioned earlier it is structured around a word, But the lyrics came from my
heart, I meant everyone single word that I sang.
My previous work (my first single) is a heartbreak song, very chill, like smooth contemporary jazz style, inspired by Sade.
So the difference is, I have never had my heart broken (romantically), lol, I sang what I imagine it would feel like to be going through a
break up.

Q. What role does personal experience play in your music?

I mostly don’t write/sing about my personal experience, I have a very good imagination.
But I won’t say personal experience doesn’t play a role, in fact I think it plays a crucial role.
I am who I am today because of all my experiences, The way I view music, the way I write, my originality, all thanks to these
experiences.

Q. Who are some of your musical influences and how do they shape your sound?

That is a very short list, haha

‘Asa’ amongst a few others, I listened to a lot of her music growing up, I still listen to her.
Anyone who knows me knows I’m a sucker for good lyrics. She is my go to for meaningful music. The others are Sade, Beautiful
nubia, Passenger and Nina Simone.
They inspire me to stay original, find my own sound and develop it.
