Rising star Zehbrah closes out the year with his fourth EP, Green Version Demo, which follows his third EP, FOUR. The six-track EP features two fan favorites, “The Nirv (Do You Know Me?)” and “Make Me Proud,” and four never-before-heard songs. Zehbrah cleverly organized the EP to reflect the grouped themes, and musical and literal journey.
Green Version Demo kicks off with the lead single, “The Nirv (Do You Know Me?).” “The Nirv (Do You Know Me?)” is a track that tackles self-growth. Zehbrah brandishes a smooth, Childish Gambino-like flow over an eclectic, Alternative Hip-Hop instrumental. Zehbrah showcases his versatility with his melodic singing within the record. The EP then moves to “Want Nothing.” “Want Nothing” dives into the intersection of morality and the superficial nature of society. The track features a robotic, futuristic beat. Zehbrah spits conscious, resonating lyrics.
Track three, “Chess,” is about navigating life and its pitfalls. Music artist Zehbrah uses chess as a metaphor for how strategic one must be to effectively navigate life. Zehbrah utilizes a bouncy flow reminiscent of Ab-Soul and witty double entendres. “Is It His Fault?” is up next. The tune has a hard-hitting Trap beat that has an A$AP Mob feel. The aggressive beat strengthens Zehbrah harsh critique of society’s prevalence of systemic oppression.
The penultimate song, “Life Right,” is an inspirational record that discusses getting one’s life right. The song has a hopeful tone. Ironically and ingeniously, Zehbrah switches his flow up within the song, symbolizing the changes noted within the song. The finale, “Make Me Proud,” continues with the motivational theme. “Make Me Proud” is a powerful piece that urges listeners to live life to the fullest.
Green Version Demo is an immaculate project. Atlanta’s Zehbrah puts his lyrical prowess on full display. The beats are tuneful and catchy, and the messages are palpable, introspective, and extrospective. Turn the volume up and play the EP on a loop for the rest of the year and into the next.
