The Soundtrack of Lost Childhood: Emily Haber’s “Nostalgia”

Sometimes, children are deprived of a childhood. Kids can be forced to grow up too fast. Singer-songwriter Emily Haber’s “Nostalgia” is an ode to a childhood lost and the despair of adulthood. Her warm, emotive vocals glide over a longing, wistful backdrop. Lines like, “We’ll play kick the can/ Take us to Neverland/ Run home and tell your mom that you’ll be back by ten,” bring the listener straight back to the joy of their youth and also make them mourn for what they have lost. Emily brilliantly captures that bittersweet sentiment.

For Haber, music runs in her veins, having grown up in an award-winning family band. She is recognized for her masterful storytelling and soothing tone. Born with severe hearing loss in both ears and having to wear a hearing aid, she learned to have strength and perseverance. Then, she faced another hardship: she lost her mother to stage 4 ovarian cancer in 2015. She used her pain and channeled that into her art. Fans truly admire her unique creativity and bold resiliency.
