The creative spark for this project came unexpectedly — like many of the best ones do.

“I was watching Boyz n the Hood with my cousin. We were listening to Grant Green, and it clicked. I started writing,” TJ shares. “It’s crazy because it’s not hard for me to write. It just has to make sense. If it’s not real and honest, I can’t relate.”

That authenticity is what makes TJ’s work stand out. It’s not just about bars or beats — it’s about meaning.

A Childhood Full of Sound

Growing up, TJ spent a lot of time with his grandmother, surrounded by a rich mix of sounds — gospel, zydeco, hip hop, R&B, jazz, and even rock. It was an environment that naturally bred creativity.

“I used to be around a lot of music,” he recalls. “Played the game heavy, played basketball too. If I would’ve stayed committed, I know I would’ve went far. I just didn’t have the time or money to do it.”

As the youngest of his mom’s kids, he learned to observe, listen, and hold on to the things that moved him.

Why Music?

The passion started early. TJ remembers freestyling as a kid, chasing the moment when the crowd would lock in on his words.

“I wanted to freestyle and say something that made the crowd pay attention — that was the win for me. I started writing at 12. All the music I liked made me feel something real. I don’t feel that from music now. I want to bring that feeling back.”

And that’s exactly what he’s doing — creating music that hits the soul and sparks something real in listeners.
