Martel Smooth: Love, Music, and the Power of Staying True to Yourself

For Martel Smooth, music isn’t just a passion — it’s a calling. “I didn’t choose it. It chose me,” he says. “There were times I wished I could quit or shake it off, but I can’t.”

That unshakable bond with music is what fuels his latest project — a collaborative release with fellow artist J Macyy. Together, they explore the dualities of love: the highs, the heartbreaks, and everything in between. “The inspiration behind the project is the good and bad sides of love — and being in love,” Martel explains.

This isn’t your typical love story though. The message runs deeper.

Love is about you,” he says with clarity. “It’s all good to be in love and fall in love, but don’t lose you in the process. I think a lot of us forget that.”

The creative process? Fast, organic, and charged with chemistry. “We worked fast, wrote fast, and recorded fast. The energy just clicked,” Martel recalls. “Shout out to the engineers and producers — they played a big role in bringing this to life.”

Born with music in his soul and honesty in his words, Martel’s artistry is grounded in his upbringing. “My childhood was normal. I loved it. I fought a lot,” he admits with a grin, “but other than that, it was perfect to me.”

That raw realness is what sets him apart. No gimmicks, just a vibe that speaks to anyone who’s ever felt caught between love and self-love.
