From Hollywood to Nashville: Rex James IV on His Journey to a “BulletproofHeart”

Rex James IV is a rising star with a passion for music sparked by his film debut, Mi
Loca Quince, and a duet with Izabellah Rae Diez. This pivotal experience led him to a
career in country music and a sound he describes as a mix of pop, country, and rock. In
this exclusive interview, Rex opens up about his creative process, the influences that
shaped his unique style, and the story behind his latest single, “Bulletproof Heart.” He
reveals how he channels personal emotions into relatable lyrics, navigates the
challenges of a burgeoning career, and connects with fans who’ve experienced
heartbreak just like he has.

  1. What first inspired you to pursue a career in music?
It all started with my first movie, Mi Loca Quince. I got to do a duet with the amazing
Izabellah Rae Diez, and that’s when the spark really lit for me.
  2. Can you tell us about a pivotal moment in your life when you realized music
    was your calling?

The first time I stepped into a studio, I instantly fell in love with the atmosphere. Then
performing on stage gave me such a rush that I knew this was what I wanted to do.
  3. Who are your biggest musical influences, and how have they shaped your
    sound?

Zach Bryan is my biggest influence. He really shaped my love for country music.
  4. How do you hope your music will evolve as you get deeper into the
    business?

I hope my sound grows into more of a pop-country or even a rock vibe in the coming
    year.
    Creative Process
  5. Can you walk us through your creative process when writing a new song?
For me, it’s about getting my feelings down on paper and turning them into phrases
that are catchy and connect with each other.
  6. Do you start with lyrics, melodies, or a concept when creating a new track?
    Definitely the lyrics.
  7. How do you handle creative blocks or moments when inspiration is hard to
    find?

I take a break, and usually sleep on it. Sometimes a memory comes back, and I’ll
write it down later.

  1. What do you want listeners to feel or take away from your music?
I want them to relate to it especially when it comes to heartbreak, since we’ve all
been through that in some way.
    Specific Work & Collaborations
  2. What’s the story behind your latest single?
It’s about two people in love, one giving their all, while the other gives nothing in
    return.
  3. Do you have any memorable moments from working with other artists or
    producers?

My first time performing on stage with Izabellah Rae Diez will always be my most
    memorable moment.
  1. If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be
    and why?

Michael Jackson. I’ve always admired him as a singer, dancer, and performer. He
could teach me so much about stage presence and rhythm.
    Performance & Fans
  2. What has been your most memorable performance or tour experience so
    far?

My very first performance, when I sang Finally with Izabellah Rae Diez.
  3. How do you connect with your audience during live shows or through your
    music?

I like to sing directly to the crowd and really focus on my expression to draw them in.
  4. What do you think is the most rewarding aspect of being a music artist?
Seeing how much I’ve grown. Every day I feel like I’m getting better as a singer and
    performer.
  5. Has fan feedback ever influenced the direction of your music?
Yes and no. Friends sometimes push me to try different genres like rock, which I
love but I still stick to my style.
    Challenges & Growth
  6. What are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced in your music
career, and how did you overcome them?

The hardest part has been staying consistent while balancing a life outside of music.

Traveling and being away makes it tough to keep close connections, but I’ve learned
to manage it.

  1. How do you balance staying true to your artistry while adapting to trends
    in the music industry?

I just put my own twist on whatever I sing.
  2. Is there a particular song or project that pushed you outside your comfort
    zone creatively?

Yes, my song More Than Words. It’s really personal and about not wanting to be
    someone’s backup.
    Personal Reflections
  3. What message or legacy do you want to leave behind with your music?
I want people to feel like they can relate to me. My goal is to be remembered as a
great artist who connects with others through music.
  4. Where do you see yourself and your music career in the next 5 years?
I see myself touring the world not just in one genre, but across multiple styles of
    music.
  5. How do you stay motivated and passionate about creating new music?
By reminding myself why I started because I love it. Every song is another chance to
    grow and reach more people.
