- What’s the title of your new song, and what inspired it?
Hi thanks for having me! My new song is called “Shade of Green”, it’s been out for about two months now and has been gaining some great traction so far! It was inspired by a breakup that I went through a few years ago. It was my first real break up with someone who I really loved, and who I thought I would remember and love forever. But of course, time goes by and you start to move on and forget all the little details used to cherish about this person. So it’s mainly about the confusion that comes along with that when you realize you’ve moved on from someone you thought you’d never be able to.
- Can you walk us through the story behind the lyrics?
The lyrics describe the details of the person you used to love but never thought you would forget. I feel like when you’re in love, you fall so deeply for specific details about them, like the color of their eyes. And when you don’t see them as regularly and when you’re not together, these details start to dissipate from your mind. It’s a very strange feeling, moving on, well also wanting this person to be happy.
- How would you describe the sound or vibe of this track?
I would say it’s definitely one of my more emotional tracks, however, there is an underlying hope that is portrayed in the music that I really love. I think it’s one of my favorite songs that my producer, Nick, and I have been able to create together.
- Is this song part of a larger project, like an EP or album?
No, I wanted to let this one stand on its own so it’s a single. But I was able to make a music video to go along with it, so definitely go check that out!
2. Creative Process
- What was the songwriting process like for this track?
I actually wrote this song a long time ago, but wanted to wait for the right moment to record it. I always knew I wanted to do a music video for this, so once I was able to gather all the funds then we decided to record it and shoot the music video. But, I’m pretty sure that I wrote this song in about 10 minutes. It was one of those beautiful moments that all songwriters love to have where the lyrics and melody just seemed to flow right out of you.

- Who did you collaborate with on this song (producers, writers, musicians)?
Nick Anton is my Producer! I brought him this song and then ended up flying out to LA to record the guitar and vocals with him, since he just moved out there at the time. And he helped come up with all the other instrumental parts, including the sick Cello! He’s such a multi talented musician and extremely talented producer. I feel very grateful to be able to make these songs with him.
- Was there a moment during recording when you knew this song was special?
I think I always kind of knew that this song had something special, but Nick really helped it come to life, as he does with all my songs! It’s like he can read my mind, we just have the same vision when it comes to the songs which I think is really beautiful.
3. Artistic Vision
- What message or emotion do you hope listeners take away from this song?
I hope that people can listen to this song and feel themselves sinking into the world of it. Whether it’s remembering a personal breakup that they had, or imagining a scenario where they can relate to this specific moment that I think we all eventually go through, I think that’s really beautiful. It’s a very relatable feeling, this song, and I just want people to connect with it.
- How does this track reflect your growth or evolution as an artist?
I feel like I really know what I want my songs to sound like now, which is what I’m really excited about these next few songs that I have coming out. I was really excited to get this single out, but I am very excited for how some of my newer stuff is sounding. It’s very exciting for me to continue to create and write!
- Are there any unique elements or sounds you experimented with on this release?
This might sound a little silly, but there’s a moment in the second verse where I am harmonizing short little ohhs. And I don’t know how that idea came to me, but I’m glad Nick wanted to run with it, cause I think it ended up sounding really good in the end product! Nick also put in some flutters which make it sound more dreamy. I think it really helps build the world, and I like to be metaphor of like a butterfly passing by, symbolizing change and transformation.
4. Personal Connection
- Does this song reflect something personal from your life or experience?
Oh yes, I mean I wrote this about a very real person. I’m not sure if he’s heard it cause I haven’t talked to him in a few years, but I don’t think he would dislike it at all. We ended things very cordially and last time I talked to him, we both just wanted the best for each other, so I genuinely hope he’s doing well! If anything, the breakup taught me that it’s okay to let people go and that moving on is a good thing. I have a lot of trouble letting people I love go, because there are usually so many happy memories associated with them. But sometimes the only way to grow is to let them go and move on. And I’m glad I did because now I’m with someone I really love which I never thought I would feel again.
- Were there any challenges or breakthroughs during the making of this song?
I don’t think so. Like I said, it was one of those songs that really just flew out of me, which are my favorite kind of songs that I write.
5. Looking Ahead
- What’s next for you after this release?
So I’m in the middle of writing my next album, and figuring out how to produce all the songs. I have 10 songs so far that I’m really happy and excited to record. It’s more so seeming to live in the indie folk genre so I’m really excited to build a world in an album! Let alone, my FIRST album!
- Are you working on more music or planning a tour?
I am hoping to do a budget friendly tour next summer once the album is out. The locations will probably be mainly on the East Coast, as well as in Colorado since that’s where I’m from originally! So stay tuned for that!
- What do you hope this song does for your career?
I hope that people go watch the music video, as well as stream the song! I’m really proud of both, and just happy that I was able to do something with my music and film in the same world.
6. Fun & Personality
- If this song were a movie or a color, what would it be and why?
The color would be green (for very obvious reasons)! But if I were to place this song in a movie or a tv series, it would definitely have to be “The Summer I Turned Pretty”. I feel like this song fits perfectly in that world, especially Belly’s relationship to Conrad in season three. That would be so cool to see my song sync with those scenes.
- What’s currently on your playlist? Who are you listening to right now?
I’ve been streaming Kacey Musgraves album “Deeper Well” recently. Those songs have been really heading home for where I am in my life at the moment. I’ve also been streaming Madison Cunningham‘s new album that just came out. She’s like a modern day Joni Mitchell, which is a big compliment from me because I am the biggest Joni Mitchell fan. I’ve been really loving her new music.
What’s one thing fans would be surprised to learn about this song or your process?
I think fans would be surprised that I wrote this song a few years ago. But I think waiting to put it out has a really big payoff so I’m glad I waited for the right moment. I’m really excited for people to hear my new stuff as well!
