Ebony Jones: Confidence as a Craft, Creativity as a Calling

From Sacramento, California emerges a creative spirit whose work is rooted in confidence, connection, and community. Ebony Jones is more than an unsigned model — she is a visionary in motion, a stylistic shapeshifter, and an emerging creative director building something bigger than herself.

Ebony’s journey into fashion didn’t begin in a studio or on a runway. It began at home.

Growing up, her mother gave her the freedom to express herself through clothing — whether that meant sequins, stripes, cheetah print, or anything in between. There were no limits, no boxes. Just self-expression. That early encouragement planted something powerful in her: the understanding that fashion is not about fitting in — it’s about standing fully in who you are.

That foundation followed her into her first real experience working in fashion at Arden Mall, at the store Express. There, she helped men and women feel confident for life’s big moments — weddings, clubs, celebrations, milestones. It wasn’t just retail. It was transformation. She saw firsthand how clothes can change posture, energy, and presence.

Confidence became her craft.

She began modeling during her senior year of high school, but her creative journey truly expanded when she arrived at UCLA in 2022. Immersed in the vibrant world of fashion clubs and creatives on campus, she elevated her walk, refined her posing, and sharpened her eye for styling. Being surrounded by ambitious artists forced her to grow — and she embraced it.

Ebony describes her style as a chameleon — constantly evolving, never confined. From streetwear to monochrome minimalism, from 90s nostalgia to early 2000s revival, she experiments freely. Her philosophy is simple: wear what makes you feel powerful. Fashion should serve you — not the other way around.

Her creative identity mirrors her personality: expressive, talkative, social, and deeply connected to people. For Ebony, modeling isn’t just about standing in front of a camera. It’s about collaboration. It’s about building genuine relationships on set so that creativity flows naturally. When you connect on a deeper level, direction becomes conversation. Vision becomes shared.

But her journey hasn’t been without challenges.

Moving to Los Angeles and navigating competitive fashion spaces tested her confidence. Rejection became familiar — especially when applying to FAST, a fashion club at UCLA that rejected her all four years of college. That experience shook her belief in herself, even with the multitude of applications she submitted.

For a moment, she questioned whether she was ready to elevate. Whether she truly had what it took.

But rejection became redirection.

She also faced the challenge of simply finding opportunities to build her portfolio. Breaking into creative spaces without representation or established connections requires persistence. And she persisted.

Today, Ebony sees being unsigned as a blessing rather than a setback. Without agency restrictions, she is free to collaborate widely, meet diverse creatives, and expand her network. She believes wholeheartedly in the idea that your network is your net worth — and through her openness, she has built meaningful friendships and collaborations that continue to shape her path.

The impact she wants her work to have is rooted in joy.

She wants people to live fully. To chase their passions unapologetically. If someone can feel even a moment of happiness or inspiration while looking at a photo she’s part of, that is enough for her.

What keeps her motivated may sound simple — but it’s powerful.

Her mother once told her to pursue anything she has passion for, because it’s easier to excel when you love what you do. That advice stays with her. Her faith grounds her. The guidance from mentors and peers strengthens her. She openly acknowledges that she is not self-made — she is supported by community and by God.

And her ambitions stretch far beyond modeling.

Ebony is currently working toward becoming a creative director and building a dedicated creative directing platform. She envisions curating a collective of models, stylists, makeup artists, photographers, and directors — creatives of all experience levels — to collaborate and produce meaningful work together.

She is also stepping into makeup artistry, with dreams of offering services for weddings, birthdays, proms, and graduations. She wants to serve women and men alike, creating looks that enhance confidence and celebrate individuality.

But there’s another dimension to Ebony’s future that makes her story even more layered.

She plans to become a teacher in early childhood education and eventually a PhD professor in African American Studies. Education is another passion. Representation in academia matters to her. She doesn’t see creativity and intellect as separate worlds — she intends to embody both.

Her ultimate vision is holistic: fashion, education, community, and empowerment woven together.

Ebony Jones is not just building a portfolio.

She is building legacy.
