KJ and Dominique: Redefining Couple Connections

KJ and Dominique aren’t just building a brand—they’re redefining how couples connect. Coming out of Chicago, Illinois, the duo has taken their real-life relationship experience and transformed it into something impactful. Their creation, Lovers Quarrel, is more than just a game—it’s a tool designed to spark meaningful conversations, deepen emotional connection, and challenge couples to truly understand one another.

The idea didn’t come from a boardroom or a business plan. It came from real life.

As a couple navigating a long-distance relationship, they needed something that would keep their bond strong despite the distance. What started as a personal solution evolved into something much bigger. They realized that many couples struggle with communication, especially when it comes to deeper, more vulnerable topics. At the same time, they were aware of the limited access and openness around therapy in many communities, particularly within the Black community. That awareness became the foundation of their mission—to create something that encourages self-awareness, communication, and emotional growth in a way that feels natural and engaging.

Lovers Quarrel, now available on iOS, blends deep conversations, psychological reflection, and playful elements like sipping and stripping, creating a unique experience that is both fun and meaningful. It pushes couples to go beyond surface-level answers and explore the “why” behind their thoughts and feelings—something that is often overlooked in relationships.

Their entrepreneurial mindset didn’t start with this project.

Both KJ and Dominique have always valued independence, choosing entrepreneurship as a way to control their time, income, and direction in life. That same mindset carried into building Lovers Quarrel, allowing them to stay true to their vision without compromise.

Like any startup, the journey hasn’t been without challenges.

From the technical side of coding and constant updates to navigating marketing strategies, they’ve had to learn and adapt quickly. Building an app requires patience, consistency, and problem-solving, especially when you’re creating something new. But their belief in what they’ve built has kept them pushing forward.

One of their biggest milestones so far has been getting the app approved by Apple and seeing it gain subscribers not just in the United States, but internationally. That moment validated their idea and showed them that what they created resonates beyond their own experience.

What keeps them motivated is simple—they genuinely love what they’ve built.

They use the game themselves, believe in its purpose, and see firsthand the value it brings. That authenticity makes it easier to promote, because it’s not just business—it’s something they truly stand behind.

Their message to other aspiring entrepreneurs is clear: build something you love, and don’t get discouraged if support doesn’t come from where you expected. Often, the strongest support comes from people you’ve never met. Staying focused on your vision is what matters most.

Looking ahead, KJ and Dominique have big plans for Lovers Quarrel. They aim to expand beyond the digital space by releasing a physical card deck and creating variations of the game tailored to different types of relationships. Their goal is to continue growing a brand that not only entertains, but also strengthens relationships on a deeper level.

KJ and Dominique didn’t just create a game.

They created a conversation.
