Inna Matiushyna, also known as MIA, is not simply creating performances—she is reshaping the language of contemporary theater. A Ukrainian choreographer, director, and founder of ADT Anthill Dance Theater, her work exists at the intersection of movement, technology, and socio-political reflection. Living and working between Ukraine and Sweden, she embodies a dual perspective that fuels both her artistic depth and her global vision.
Her connection to choreography began almost as soon as she could move. Starting at just four years old, dance became an intrinsic part of her identity. However, her true emergence as an independent artist came in 2019 with her video-art project TEMPO. This work explored the elasticity of rhythm—from the intimacy of a heartbeat to the overwhelming pulse of a modern city. It marked a turning point, where movement evolved from expression into a conceptual tool—one capable of translating complex human experiences.
From there, her journey expanded rapidly. After a series of video works, she transitioned into live performances, eventually stepping into larger-scale productions, including directing musicals. Founding ADT Anthill Dance Theater became a defining moment—transforming her from an individual creator into the architect of a full artistic institution. What began as a vision has grown into a platform for innovation, collaboration, and boundary-pushing performance.
Her work is rooted in contemporary choreographic theater, where immersive practices meet advanced technology. MIA approaches the human body as more than a physical form—it becomes an intellectual instrument, capable of expressing ideas that go beyond language. She explores how global socio-political shifts are absorbed, processed, and expressed through movement, using art as a way to reinterpret reality itself.
Her inspiration comes from both people and belief. The unwavering support of those around her, along with the passion she saw in her students, pushed her to create something meaningful. When traditional systems failed to support her vision, she chose independence—building her theater from the ground up. That decision became a point of no return, forcing her to invest in herself and create opportunities where none existed.
MIA’s creative identity is bold and experimental. She blends choreography, technology, and political themes to create work that challenges audiences rather than simply entertaining them. Her performances blur the line between stage and spectator, inviting people into the experience and often pushing them to question their own perspectives. She is not interested in obvious answers—she is interested in provoking thought and emotion.

Her journey has not been without its challenges. Financial independence remains one of the most demanding aspects of sustaining an independent theater, especially when producing high-quality, large-scale work. Additionally, navigating professional structures and maintaining discipline within creative environments has required constant effort. Yet these challenges have only strengthened her commitment to building something sustainable and impactful.
One of her most significant achievements is being selected for AEROWAVES, a milestone she worked toward for five years. It represents international recognition and validates the artistic direction of her theater. Alongside this, her work has reached global stages, including collaborations during London Fashion Week 2026, further expanding her presence across creative industries.
Her message is powerful and direct: act. Through her work, she wants audiences to leave not just inspired, but moved to make changes in their own lives. Whether it’s a small personal shift or a bold professional leap, she aims to remind people that they are not passive observers of the world—they are active participants in shaping it.
What keeps her motivated is both vision and responsibility. As an artist, she feels a deep need to express ideas through her craft. At the same time, she is committed to supporting emerging talent, becoming the kind of figure she once needed—a source of belief and opportunity for others.
Currently, she is developing an innovative interactive performance that integrates new technology, promising to create a completely new kind of audience experience. At the same time, her theater continues to expand internationally, with upcoming showcases and screenings across Ukraine, Romania, Sweden, and Spain.
Looking ahead, her goals are expansive. She aims to establish Anthill Dance Theater as a global hub for artistic research, fostering collaborations across disciplines such as media art and architecture. She also envisions creating a physical space—a home for her team—where ideas can be developed freely and brought to life on a larger scale.
Inna Matiushyna is not just creating performances.
She is building a new language—one where movement, technology, and human experience merge into something unforgettable.
