Hailing from Chicago, Illinois, Courtney Alexander is a multimedia journalist, entrepreneur, and media founder whose work is rooted in purpose, impact, and the power of storytelling. With a clear vision and a deep commitment to representation, she has positioned herself at the forefront of a new generation of media leaders—those who are not only telling stories, but reshaping the way they are told.
Courtney specializes in journalism, editorial leadership, and building platforms that amplify meaningful narratives. In 2025, she founded Secrets & Legacy Media, a features-focused publication dedicated to highlighting Black legacy, culture, and changemakers. Through powerful storytelling, the platform shines a light on entrepreneurs, entertainers, students, and community leaders—individuals whose stories might otherwise go unheard, yet carry undeniable impact.
Expanding her vision even further, she is preparing to launch Our Colors Show Media, a platform centered on authentic lived experiences. This project will focus on addressing social issues such as microaggressions, racism, stereotypes, and systemic inequalities, creating space for truth, healing, and awareness. For Courtney, storytelling is not just about reporting—it is about responsibility, representation, and real change.
Her journey into media was driven by a lifelong passion for storytelling. While exploring career paths, journalism immediately stood out, leading her to switch majors and fully commit to the field. From the moment she stepped into her college communications building, she knew she had found her calling. Despite the challenges presented by the pandemic during her final years of college, she remained determined, returning to complete her degree while gaining hands-on experience through her university’s newspaper and news station.
After graduation, breaking into the media industry proved to be anything but easy. However, persistence led her to an opportunity with The AFRO, where she gained invaluable experience working on-air, writing articles, managing digital marketing, and overseeing social media and newsletters. This role became a pivotal moment in her career, allowing her to develop a well-rounded skill set and a deeper understanding of the industry.
Throughout her journey, Courtney has had the opportunity to interview a range of influential figures, including Kel Mitchell, Lynn Toler, Miasha Coleman, LisaRaye McCoy, OMG Girlz, Cathy Hughes, Wes Moore, and Dawn Moore. These experiences not only elevated her career but also helped shape her perspective as both a journalist and a creative professional.
Her work is defined by intention. She describes herself as a visionary, innovator, and entrepreneur—someone who is deeply invested in creating meaningful, impactful content. Whether through writing, performance, or creative expression, she approaches every project with the goal of leaving a lasting legacy.

Like many entrepreneurs, Courtney has faced significant challenges along the way, including financial struggles, rejection, anxiety, and imposter syndrome. She has also navigated experiences of racism and microaggressions in both educational and professional spaces. Rather than allowing these obstacles to define her, she has used them as fuel—strengthening her resilience and reinforcing her commitment to her purpose.
Among her proudest accomplishments is becoming a first-generation college graduate, a milestone that holds deep personal and familial significance. In addition, self-funding her media company and expanding into a second platform stands as a testament to her determination and belief in her vision. Her work has been recognized by outlets such as VoyageLA, VoyageATL, Influential Women, and Women for the Culture, and she placed seventh out of 100 entrepreneurs in the Entrepreneur of Impact competition.
At the core of her mission is impact. Courtney is committed to changing the narrative around media—proving that storytelling does not have to center negativity, gossip, or dysfunction. Instead, she aims to highlight stories rooted in excellence, growth, legacy, and inspiration. By focusing on Gen Z and Zillennials, she is intentionally documenting a generation that is actively building its legacy in real time.
What continues to motivate her is the knowledge that her work has the power to inspire and uplift others. Whether or not there is financial reward, knowing that her storytelling can make someone feel seen, valued, or encouraged is enough to keep her moving forward.
Currently, she is focused on expanding Secrets & Legacy Media into a nationally recognized platform while building Our Colors Show Media into a space for impactful, documentary-style storytelling. Her long-term vision includes growing her companies on both a national and international scale, as well as creating a collaborative newsroom in the Chicagoland area—complete with podcast studios, offices, and creative spaces that bring storytellers together under one roof.
Beyond professional success, Courtney is deeply committed to building generational wealth and creating opportunities for her future family. She envisions the businesses she is building today becoming lasting legacies—foundations that can be passed down and expanded for years to come.
Driven, ambitious, and just getting started, Courtney Alexander is not only telling stories—she is building platforms that ensure those stories are heard, remembered, and valued.
