Richmond, Virginia artist SpiffyVee is building a career rooted in authenticity, versatility, vulnerability, and a desire to create music that reaches beyond traditional expectations.
The rapper, songwriter, and creative has developed a sound that blends sharp lyricism, melodic production, confidence, and emotion while refusing to be limited to one particular style. Influenced by her late father and fellow rapper, producer, and engineer Eye-Speak, as well as hip-hop heavyweights such as Lil Wayne and J. Cole, SpiffyVee has developed an artistic identity that allows her to tell her story while encouraging listeners to confront their own.
Her relationship with music began early, but one moment during her eighth-grade pageant helped change the way she viewed her creative abilities. After performing an original song, classmates and even people she didn’t know began asking her to perform it again. They sang along, danced, and responded to something she had created.
That experience showed SpiffyVee that music could do more than simply entertain.
It could connect people.
That idea continues to influence her creative process today. SpiffyVee often begins with production that creates an emotional reaction—a beat that gives her goosebumps, sparks a memory, or immediately makes her want to write. Other times, the story comes first, particularly when she has something personal that needs to be expressed.
Regardless of where the process begins, emotion remains at the center.
Her music also reflects a commitment to positivity. SpiffyVee understands that music can affect people on a deeper level, which is why she intentionally creates records that can motivate, encourage, entertain, and make listeners feel understood.
One example is “Strike-Through,” a record built around the idea that people have the ability to rewrite their stories. The song speaks to overcoming obstacles and refusing to allow past experiences or other people’s expectations to determine what comes next.
That message is especially significant considering the personal experiences that have shaped SpiffyVee’s journey.
Her father was not only one of her earliest musical influences but also one of her greatest supporters. After his passing in 2020, SpiffyVee seriously considered stepping away from music. Their shared connection through music made his absence especially difficult, and continuing without one of her biggest cheerleaders initially felt impossible.
Eventually, music became part of her healing.
Returning to the craft gave SpiffyVee a way to reconnect with memories of her father and find peace with his absence. Rather than allowing grief to permanently close the door on music, she began using her experiences as fuel for a new chapter.
That vulnerability can also be heard in “Cue the Tears,” a deeply personal record inspired by her father’s incarceration during her teenage years. The song required SpiffyVee to revisit an experience that carried significant emotional weight, which contributed to the approximately eight months it took her to complete the record.
While creating the song, she also wanted to honor her late father and uncle by sampling a piece of their “Fiyahh” hook from SoundCloud.
For SpiffyVee, those personal experiences aren’t simply stories from the past. They have become part of the foundation of her artistry.
At the same time, she refuses to allow vulnerability to define her entire identity.
SpiffyVee is equally comfortable bringing confidence, energy, melodic flows, and harder production into her music. She recognizes that people may make assumptions about her sound based on her appearance and femininity, but her creative instincts often take her somewhere completely different.
Rather than limiting herself to what someone might expect from a woman in hip-hop, she gravitates toward hard and melodic production and embraces the freedom to move between different sounds.
That versatility is central to her vision.
SpiffyVee believes today’s hip-hop culture provides room for artists to occupy multiple spaces, and she wants her music to connect with people across generations, backgrounds, and experiences. Her goal isn’t simply to make music for one demographic. She wants to create records that people can enjoy, relate to, and remember.
Her ambitions also extend beyond her individual career.
As a Richmond creative, SpiffyVee is passionate about changing the perception of the city’s music and creative community. She recognizes the long-standing “crabs in a barrel” mentality that can surround creative industries, but rather than simply discussing the problem, she is focused on demonstrating another possibility.
Collaboration.
Through partnerships with other Richmond artists and creatives, SpiffyVee is working to show what can happen when people uplift one another, share opportunities, and build together.
That philosophy is reflected in her upcoming projects, including a joint EP with R&B artist Googsz Kinnard, continued live performances, and an upcoming music video celebrating Richmond’s twerk culture alongside hip-hop artist FTL Big Ju.
Her entrepreneurial vision is also evident through The C.R.O.W.N. Conference, which she co-founded to connect and empower artists, entrepreneurs, and creatives. The acronym represents Creativity, Relationships, Opportunities, Wealth, and Networking—five areas that reflect her belief that creative success requires more than talent alone.
For SpiffyVee, music is ultimately about impact.
She wants to represent Richmond and Virginia with pride while creating opportunities for herself and others. She wants women in hip-hop to recognize that they don’t have to choose between being vulnerable and confident, feminine and hard-hitting, personal and entertaining.
There is room for all of it.
Her journey has already taken her through moments of discovery, grief, healing, self-expression, and reinvention. Now, she is using each chapter to shape the artist she is becoming.
SpiffyVee isn’t interested in allowing other people to write the boundaries of her story.
