Through faith, cinematic imagery, and a developing artistic narrative, Josh Banton introduces the next phase of his journey toward The Hardened Heart.

What does it mean for an artist to reinvent themselves?

Is it changing their sound, transforming their image, or discovering a deeper understanding of the person behind the music?

For Josh Banton, the answer may involve all three.

With the release of “Funeral” featuring Lenny Eastside, Banton introduces a creative concept that challenges traditional ideas surrounding identity, growth, and transformation.

The October 23 release marks an important development in the artist’s journey as he prepares to unveil his upcoming project, The Hardened Heart.

Drawing inspiration from Galatians 2:20, “Funeral” uses the imagery of death to represent spiritual renewal.

Rather than presenting a funeral as a moment of finality, Banton transforms it into a symbolic celebration of leaving an old identity behind.

That contrast becomes one of the release’s most compelling creative elements.

Death and rebirth. Mourning and celebration. Confidence and surrender.

Each represents a different aspect of the transformation Banton is communicating.

The artistic evolution becomes more apparent when examining his earlier work.

During the Temperature era, Banton introduced audiences to a sound that incorporated Hip-Hop, Pop, and R&B influences.

With “Stand On It” featuring Jazzy J, he further established a musical personality rooted in confidence, conviction, and faith.

Now, “Funeral” introduces a more introspective dimension.

The record explores what happens when personal growth requires an artist to confront the identity they’ve spent years building.

Lenny Eastside’s contribution adds another layer to the musical narrative, reinforcing the relationship between faith, lyricism, and creative expression.

The accompanying music video brings the concept into a visual space.

Through funeral-inspired imagery and carefully developed styling, Banton uses the visual presentation to reinforce the record’s central themes.

It’s an approach that reflects the growing importance of visual storytelling in modern artist development.

Music is no longer experienced solely through sound. The imagery, presentation, and narrative surrounding a release can become equally important parts of an artist’s identity.

For Banton, “Funeral” represents an opportunity to connect those elements into a larger creative statement.

And that statement appears to be leading toward The Hardened Heart.

The title alone raises questions about emotional protection, vulnerability, faith, and the experiences that shape our identities.

Will the project explore the walls people build around themselves? Will it examine the relationship between pain and personal transformation? Or will it introduce an entirely different perspective on the artist’s journey?

Those answers have yet to be revealed.

But the creative direction established through “Funeral” suggests that Banton is thinking beyond individual releases.

He’s developing a narrative.

And sometimes, the most compelling artistic stories begin when someone decides it’s time to let the old version of themselves go.
