Mirad’s Journey: From Gospel to Global Recognition

Mirad, whose name means “reflected,” is an artist shaped by emotion, duality, and raw self-expression. Coming from Johannesburg, South Africa, she creates across multiple mediums—music, books, audiobooks, and even acting—but at her core, she is a musician. Music is where she has invested the most time, energy, and identity, using it as a space to explore who she is and who she continues to become.

Her journey into creativity began early, around the age of nine or ten, when she wrote and performed a gospel song in front of her class. Looking back, it may feel cringeworthy to her now, but that moment marked the beginning of something real. From there, she explored everything—singing at school, traditional Zulu dance, acting—constantly searching for herself within creativity. By 2016, she recorded her first official song, and since then, she has spent years developing her sound, her voice, and her identity as an artist.

Her inspiration was clear from the beginning. Watching women on television—confident, expressive, beautiful, and powerful—she knew she wanted to be that girl. The one who performs, who owns her presence, who creates and gets paid for it. That vision still drives her today.

Mirad’s creative identity is fluid. She doesn’t confine herself to one style or one sound. She moves with the music, allowing the instrumental to guide her while she expresses herself in the most natural way possible. Her work blends rap and singing, often touching on themes of emotion, identity, and experience. Some may label it indie pop, but for her, it’s simply expression—unfiltered and evolving.

Her journey hasn’t been without challenges. Navigating the industry as a woman has been one of the most difficult aspects, particularly when it comes to working with men. However, those experiences have also helped her find her voice and stand firmly in her identity. She has learned to navigate spaces with more awareness, strength, and self-respect.

One of her proudest accomplishments is her EP Allure, a project she poured everything into. As it approaches its one-year mark, it stands as proof of her growth and dedication. For her, the hardest part was laying the foundation—once that was done, everything else began to flow more naturally.

At the heart of her work is freedom.

Mirad wants people to feel free—to live in the moment, to explore who they are, and to embrace both their light and their complexity. She understands that people are not one-dimensional, and neither is she. Part of her message encourages people to enjoy life, to take risks, and yes, even to be a little reckless at times—as long as it doesn’t harm themselves or others. For her, freedom also includes exploring identity, confidence, and even sexuality without shame. Her work is about breaking limitations and allowing people to exist fully as themselves.

What keeps her going is both ambition and inevitability. She dreams of working with artists like Rihanna and reaching levels she knows she’s capable of. But beyond that, creating is simply who she is. She doesn’t see a life where she isn’t making something. It’s not just passion—it’s purpose.

Right now, she is working on a five-track EP alongside collaborators from Italy and South Africa, building something that reflects both her growth and her global creative connections. Alongside that, she continues to release singles and collaborate on other projects, steadily expanding her presence.

Looking ahead, her goals are clear. She wants her art to sustain her—to finally give back what she has poured into it for so long. She wants to live from her creativity, to grow, and to continue evolving without limits.

Mirad isn’t trying to fit into a box.

She’s creating her own space—and inviting others to be free inside it.
