1. For readers discovering you for the first time, how would you introduce yourself and your sound?
I’m McKenna Camille, the waterskiing pop star. My core sound is a fun take on indie pop with crossovers from hyperpop, country, and rock. My sound is evolving, but the core of my music is always the same which is drawn from my real life, deeply personal experiences.
2. What inspired your new single “Canary”?
A real falling out I had with a very very close friend of mine.
3. The song explores the aftermath of a falling out with a longtime friend. What emotions were the hardest to put into words?
The struggle between wanting to speak with that friend and being very very mad at them.
4. Was there a specific lyric or part of “Canary” that felt the most personal to you?
All of the words in “Canary” feel quite personal to me as they all tell the story very well.

Amazing. They’re amazing people and I love working with them every chance I get. We laugh a lot.

6. How does “Canary” compare to your previous releases and show your growth as an artist?
“Canary” is different from most of the music I’ve made thus far. It’s more hyperpop than anything I’ve ever made and shows how my taste has evolved over time.
7. You’ve mentioned Billie Eilish’s “L’Amour de Ma Vie” as an influence before recording. What about that song inspired you?
I just love how there’s like two songs in one song. It really grabs my attention and I think it is a great way to display contrastive emotions which is why it was such a great inspo to “Canary”.
8. You’re also an actress, fashion designer, and director. How do those creative interests influence your music?
I love clothes and fashion and being able to make those choices in my music videos. As far as acting, when creating a song I always see the music video in my mind as we’re making it. I’m always very excited to tell the story visually.
