Tangela Turner—known to many of her fans by her stage names Tangie Texas and Sweet T—has carved out a unique position in the independent music ecosystem.

Refusing to choose between being a powerhouse artist and a community architect, Turner has seamlessly merged her rich, southern vocal style with deep-seated street-level activism. The result is a career defined by musical evolution and a commitment to lifting others as she climbs.

A Distinct Sonic Identity and Musical Growth, Turner’s musical journey is grounded in a smooth, authentic blend of southern soul, R&B, and contemporary hip-hop. Her vocal style acts as a natural bridge between eras; she is equally at home floating over classic, emotive R&B grooves as she is delivering sharp, modern urban tracks. Her discography reflects a steady artistic evolution. Early releases showcased her raw vocal power, but projects like Zen 10, Black Sheep Holiday, and her album Tangie Texas Reloaded capture a mature artist in complete control of her narrative. Tracks like “So Complete” and her collaboration with the late Dallas rap legend C Struggs on “Funny” highlight her ability to navigate both soulful vulnerability and regional street anthems with effortless credibility.

High-Level Industry Alliances: Freeway Rick Ross and Dame Dash.

Turner’s rise has been accelerated by her sharp business acumen, which caught the attention of some of hip-hop’s most legendary figures. From 2022 to 2024, she served as a key executive assistant for the record label run by the iconic “Freeway” Rick Ross. Operating in this high-stakes environment allowed her to master the inner workings of industry distribution, contract negotiation, and brand building. In tandem with her time alongside Ross, Turner has built strong, collaborative affiliations with names such as Zaytoven though his production networks, and even was selected to meet with Damon Dash’s independent imprint, The Dash Record Label. Rather than seeking a traditional artist deal to sign away her rights, Turner approached these heavyweights as a peer and student of the game, utilizing their mentorship to solidify her blueprint for absolute artistic independence.

The Dallas Trackhouse: A Sanctuary for Sound. Instead of keeping the secrets of the industry to herself, Turner brought her knowledge straight back to Texas. She founded and operates the Dallas Trackhouse, a premier media, entertainment, and production company that serves as the home for her creative endeavors. The studio is more than just a place where Turner cuts her own masters; the Dallas Trackhouse serves as a creative sanctuary where underground and emerging artists can access major-label quality without major-label budgets.

Activism and Community Impact is what truly separates Turner from the standard independent artist;  how she uses her studio as an engine for community transformation is uncanny. Her activism is actionable, structured, and deeply impactful:

The “Barber-College” Studio Model: Turner designed a subscription system that pairs local, low-budget artists with studio interns who need training hours, keeping recording costs exceptionally accessible while giving engineers vital hands-on experience.Youth STEAM Camps: Believing that creativity should be paired with technical literacy, she curates programs focusing on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) to teach local youth how to monetize their talents. Her studio annually frequents elementary schools in the area to inspire the next generation of positive creators.

Paid Internship Pipelines: Through the Trackhouse, she creates direct employment and learning pipelines for college students and local neighborhood youth, offering them marketable skills in audio engineering and multimedia production.

As Tangela Turner steps into her next chapter, she stands as a powerful example of what it means to be a modern music executive. By maintaining ownership of her art and building a physical infrastructure for the next generation, she isn’t just making hits—she is anchoring a community.. She says the journey is the best part!
